Meet the 2023 Supreme Property People Award winners!

With nominations for the 2024 Property People Awards open until 30 August, we celebrate last year’s top teams and individuals who were recognised for their outstanding contributions to the property community and built environment.

Thank you to all those who have put forward a nomination so far, we look forward to receiving more over the coming weeks.

The Rotorua Lakefront Redevelopment team took home the top accolade at last year’s Central Property People Awards. Winning the Colliers Project Leaders Supreme Excellence Award and Chow:Hill Architects Urban Design Award, The Rotorua Lakefront Redevelopment Team successfully transformed Lake Rotorua’s shores into a world-class destination that seamlessly marries the natural beauty of the land and the lake. Working closely with local iwi and mana whenua Ngāti Whakaue, the project team – consisting of Rotorua Lakes District Council, Veros, AECOM, Isthmus, Tonkin + Taylor, and SEG – delivered an ambitious lakefront masterplan that honours Rotorua’s rich history and unique cultural identity. Visitors embarking on their hikoi across the site are immersed in the whenua’s history and its profound significance to local Māori.

Judge Brian Squair of Chow:Hill Architects said, “the Rotorua Lakefront Redevelopment is a marvellous example of well-considered urban design, the project is meaningful, considerate of its environment and most importantly, brings the community together. The project team embraced its role as a transformative force for the community. The space has become a haven for locals, a place that echoes the distinctive spirit of Rotorua and reverberates with a powerful cultural narrative.”

Being held at Wintec, Hamilton on Thursday 24 October 2024.

Andrew Lapsley, Verve Projects stood out at the South Island Property People Awards last year, taking home the Property Council Supreme Excellence Award and the Greenwood Roche Young Achiever of the Year Award. Andrew’s credentials as a construction professional and skills as a project manager and leader helped him stand out. His swift rise up the ranks from labourer, to gaining a Bachelor of Building Science from Victoria University and in 2021, only 12 years later, to being an owner and director at Verve Projects is impressive and indicative of his drive and determination.

Well-spoken of by clients and staff, Andrew is credited with developing and maintaining project communications that ensure a smooth delivery and exceptional results. Projects are delivered to a high standard, with Andrew’s proactive professionalism, experience and ability to solve issues with speed and confidence central to this success.

A capable leader, Andrew has sought opportunities to mentor and guide his team, building people alongside the business. His willingness to embrace new technologies and innovate to ensure the Verve team works smarter rather than harder are testament to his passion for continuous improvement and the property sector.
