After a COVID-induced hiatus (and yet another postponement), the South Island Property People Awards are here and better than ever. This year, we’re celebrating the people behind the projects – the movers and shakers of the South Island property community – in partnership with Principal Partners Colliers and Harvey Norman Commercial.

Whether you’re a young gun just starting out, a fearless leader steering the ship or a property professional committed to making our industry and our community a better place, there’s an award for you.

This award is to acknowledge, encourage and most importantly, promote the positive contributions made to the industry by our young people. This Award recognises an individual aged under 35 who:

  • Consistently demonstrates a passion and commitment to the local industry.
  • Contributes substantially to their organisation, the local industry and/or their community.
  • Continues to demonstrate competencies and achievements that make them stand out amongst their peers.

Nominees can be from any sector within the property industry, from quantity surveying, engineering, development, infrastructure, property management or architecture and design to property lawyers, accountants and real estate agents.

Criteria

Introduction: Provide a statement of the nominees academic and/or professional history, demonstrating their passion in the industry. This could include additional supporting evidence, including any specialist areas of practice.

Weighting: 20%

Achievements: Explain how the nominee has/or does contribute to their organisation and/or the wider property industry, detailing specific achievements, projects, challenges faced and overcome.

Weighting: 50%

Aspirations: Comment on the nominee’s future goals and objectives; how this nominee demonstrates innovation, excellence and leadership skills as they look to the future.

Weighting: 30%

Format

Written submission, maximum 2000 words excluding references (if applicable).

Good urban design is the fabric for a prosperous region. This award recognises an individual or project team who have utilised urban design best practice to achieve excellence in a new development or refurbishment. This award recognises an individual or team who:

  • By pursing urban design outcomes has helped shape the whole or part of a city or region
  • Has demonstrated urban design best practice
  • Has created spaces for people to thrive using unique and innovative ideas
  • Has contributed to the region's sustainable growth through the excellence of urban design outcomes.
Criteria

Introduction: Provide an outline of what the nominee has undertaken to better the region’s urban fabric, including why their project(s) or actions are unique and innovative. This may include additional supporting evidence of relevance to the Award. Note: Nominations relating to project work must have a completion date of no later than 30 June 2021.

Weighting: 20%

The Seven C's: Comment on how the nominee has demonstrated best practice by taking into consideration the ‘seven C’s’: context, character, choice, connections, creativity, custodianship and collaboration.

Weighting: 30%

Contribution: Explain why the nominee’s actions have benefited or enhanced the community. Include comments of how this engagement has contributed to the sustainable growth of the local environment.

Weighting: 30%

Best Practice: Comment on how the nominee’s actions are inspirational to the industry and how the outcome will have a continued effect on the community and the industry as a whole.

Weighting: 20%

Format

Written submission, maximum 2000 words excluding references (if applicable).

This award is directed to an individual who displays excellence in their profession and contributes to the wider property industry. This award recognises a property professional who:

  • Consistently demonstrates a passion and commitment to the industry.
  • Supports and facilitates opportunities for their industry peers through leadership, fostering relationships, innovation, supporting growth and making an overall positive contribution to the industry.
  • Is an ambassador for their organisation and the property industry.

Nominees can be from any discipline within the property industry, from developers, managers and consultants to local government authorities, property owners and beyond.

Criteria

Introduction: Provide a statement of the nominees academic and/or professional history, demonstrating their passion in the industry and display of excellence. This could include additional supporting evidence, including any specialist areas of practice.

Weighting: 20%

Achievements: Provide an overview of the nominee's achievements with a focus on occasions where they have gone 'above and beyond'; or where they have demonstrated:

  • Industry and/or organisational leadership
  • Their skills in facilitating relationships.
  • Overall positive contribution to the industry

Weighting: 45%

Industry Contribution: Comment on how the nominee's contribution has influenced their organisation and the property industry. Comment on what makes the nominee someone worth aspiring to and how they are an asset to the team.

Weighting: 35%

Format

Written submission, maximum 2000 words excluding references (if applicable).

This award recognises an industry team who has demonstrated excellence through:

  • Innovation
  • Design
  • Sustainability
  • Profitability

This team, through their outstanding work and collaboration have gone above and beyond and overcome challenges effectively and efficiently. The team has benefited not only their own organisation and/or project but the property industry at large teams who enter this category can include multi-organisation project teams, internal work teams, or any other collaborative team which is required to work together to achieve desired outcome for a project in the region.

Criteria

Overview: Provide an overview of the team detailing the participants’ areas of expertise/interest, and the groups desired outcomes or achievements. This may include additional supporting evidence of relevance to the Award. Note: Nominations relating to project work must have a completion date of no later than 30 June 2021.

Weighting: 20%

Team Excellence: Explain why this team has excelled, including contributing factors such as management style, innovation, shared goals, leadership, sustainability, inspiration and influence.

Weighting: 40%

Outcomes: Comment on what challenges this group faced as a team and how these challenges were overcome to ensure positive outcomes.

Weighting: 40%

Format

Written submission, maximum 2000 words excluding references (if applicable).

The property industry must demonstrate leadership in taking action to manage and support sustainability. This award recognises an individual or team who has demonstrated sustainability excellence by:

  • Leadership
  • Implementation
  • Promotion
  • Innovation
  • Impact on industry
  • Environmental outcomes

This team or individual, through their leadership, innovation and collaboration have championed sustainability initiatives that have created positive change within the industry or their organisation. These initiatives will have benefited not only their own organisation but also inspired action within the wider property industry and/or community or achieved a positive environmental outcome.

Criteria

The What: Provide an overview of the individual or team that has led a sustainability initiative that has been successfully implemented and championed change. This may include additional supporting evidence of relevance to the Award.

Weighting: 20%

The Why: Explain why this team or individual has excelled and implemented sustainability in their organisation, project or industry, including contributing factors such as leadership, innovation, Inspiration and impact on the industry or environment.

Weighting: 40%

The How: Comment on demonstrable results that have been achieved and impacts measured. What challenges were faced by the team or individual and how these were overcome to ensure positive outcomes.

Weighting: 40%

Format

Written submission, maximum 2000 words excluding references (if applicable).

This award is awarded to an individual who has been in the property industry for 20+ years and has demonstrated outstanding commitment to the industry.

Their contribution to their organisation and/or the property industry and as a result, the local economy, has enhanced the creditability and reputation of the industry to the benefit of their peers. The award winner will have demonstrated a successful contribution of social or economic importance related to property, demonstrating exceptional skills, dedication, commitment and leadership that is inspiring to those within the industry and beyond.

The recipient will be selected by the Regional Committee and will be presented the award at the awards evening.

This award is not open for nomination.

This award is presented to a deserving nominee mentioned in the other categories, who deserves to be recognised for their outstanding contribution to the local property industry.

This award will be selected by the judging panel and will be presented to either a team or individual at the awards evening.

This award is not open for nomination.

FAQs

To enter the awards, simply complete the nomination form and upload a PDF of your full, written nomination along with between 1-4 high-resolution photographs of the nominee and related work (1MB in size at a minimum please).

Nominations and entries can be made by Property Council New Zealand members and non-members alike.

Submission quantity, quality and judges’ decisions are out of Property Council New Zealand’s event staff’s control. Property Council New Zealand will proceed with the standard process for the Award provided there is a minimum of three submission entries per category.

Property Council New Zealand reserves the right to decline to make an Award or present a certificate in any particular category.

Nomination to the Property People Awards is completely free for both members and non-members.

Property Council New Zealand keeps all data strictly confidential, with only the judging panel having access to this data purely for the judging process.

The entrant agrees that comment or imagery provided by them as part of their nomination may be used in related communications at the discretion of Property Council New Zealand and the associated media.

Property Council New Zealand and its associated media accept no responsibility for any incorrect details, spelling or other incorrect information stated in the entry form and submission. Please double-check the details you provide to us.

Property Council New Zealand does not guarantee that all entrants will be featured in publications or promotional events related to the Property People Awards.

  • The entry or entrant breaches or otherwise fails to meet or observe any of the above stated eligibility or contest requirements, or
  • False or misleading information has been intentionally provided.

As noted under each category (above), the maximum length of any nomination is 2000 words excluding references (where applicable).
