The Centre for Sustainable Finance (CSF), in partnership with the New Zealand Government, is developing the NZ Taxonomy which is a voluntary classification system that provides common criteria for identifying sustainable and transition-aligned economic activities. It is intended to give investors, lenders and businesses greater clarity when assessing sustainability and help direct capital towards activities supporting a low-emissions, climate-resilient economy.
The Taxonomy has already been developed and consulted on for agriculture and forestry, followed by energy. The focus is now turning to construction and buildings, with public consultation on the draft criteria expected to open in October and run for four weeks.
A CSF webinar on Wednesday 23 September will provide an update on the NZ Taxonomy’s development and help the sector prepare for the upcoming consultation. We encourage members to watch the webinar and get involved in the consultation to help ensure the criteria are practical, workable and feasible for the sector.
