On 15 June 2023, Property Council submitted to Tauranga City Council on its Climate Action and Investment Plan. The Climate Action and Investment Plan is a proposed ‘roadmap’ to achieving action in emission reductions and climate adaptation for Tauranga.
Why this matters to our members
Property Council believes in the creation and retention of a well-designed, functional, and sustainable built environment. The proposals within the Climate Action and Investment Plan will help to shape the future of Tauranga’s built environment and will impact our members.
Our view
Our submission thanked Tauranga City Council for taking a leadership role on climate change and provided a list of recommendations on specific aspects of the Climate Action and Investment Plan, in order to make practical improvements that will support emission reduction.
At a high level, we recommended that Tauranga City Council:
- Develops viable, alternative approaches to funding and financing the Climate Action and Investment Plan for inclusion in the upcoming Long-term Plan;
- Robustly engages with the private sector ahead of any decision on road charging; and
- Works with other stakeholders to plan for the impact of transport electrification on electrical grids and other supporting infrastructure, while focusing on minimising costs to consumers.
