What to expect from the Critical Leadership Skills in Property workshop

In just a couple of weeks’ time, Property Council will host its first DevelopU professional development workshop, Critical Leadership Skills in Property. But what can you expect from the day and who will you be learning from?

The Critical Skills in Leadership workshop is a full day of immersive and interactive education hosted by some of the property sector’s key leaders. The objective of the day is to equip participants with the knowledge to better lead their team, from appreciating how personal strengths and weaknesses affect team leadership, to understanding the five stages of team development and how to fuel their team’s performance. Attendees will learn how to become more effective communicators, leverage a variety of influencing styles and tactics and apply useful strategies for effective time management.

The day will kick off at 9:00 am with Todd Lauchlan, Managing Director – New Zealand for JLL, who will provide an overview of the course and set the scene for some next-level networking. From there, the team from Assemble Recruitment will take the reins to explore recruitment trends in property, the critical capabilities clients are looking for and personal branding as a leader.

Next on the agenda is a look at leadership and communication styles, where participants will discuss the results of their leadership profiling (a little homework exercise that attendees will be sent prior to the event), before delving into how to create a culture that drives performance with Nick Mackeson-Smith, Chief Curiosity Officer and Founder of Five.

Nick is an expert in leadership development, executive coaching, learning strategy design and implementation, culture change and employee engagement. He’s led transformative programmes in agile, technology implementation, diversity and inclusion, mental health and wellbeing, mindset and behaviour change, ways of working and learning enablement. He is very interested in building great employee experiences to drive great customer experiences that drive great business outcomes. Nick is a highly skilled facilitator and public speaker and has a knack for spotting and unleashing the potential in those around him. He’s got over 20 years of experience in doing the small stuff and the very big stuff at some of the world’s and NZ’s leading organisations – in financial services with Barclays Capital, Barclays Wealth Schroders, Lloyd’s of London, and Goldman Sachs. In consulting services with Deloitte. In the public sector with Auckland Council, and most recently in digital services and telecommunications with Spark New Zealand.

Following lunch and a quick debrief, two of our Emerging Leaders Programme participants, Betsy and Aimee, will navigate us through difficult conversations, before facilitator Sally Schmall breaks down effective time management strategies that can be implemented at both a team and individual level.

To wrap up the workshop, we’ll be joined by a panel of industry leaders that include Lizzi Whaley, CEO of Spaceworks and Tassanee Puklowski, DE&I Lead at JLL, who will discuss how to create a culture of diversity and inclusion to ensure everyone on your team feels like the belong.
