Last week, Property Council was delighted to host the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (MHUD) on a site tour of Build to Rent developments across Auckland.
The purpose of this tour was to show examples of best practices in Build to Rent development and to examine potential roadblocks to further expanding the sector and providing much-needed homes for New Zealanders.
Property Council would like to thank our members Kiwi Property, Simplicity Living, New Ground/Hapai Housing, McConnell Property and Tamaki Regeneration Company who shared their exciting progress in the Build to Rent space.
Speaking of progress, watch this space soon for news of our Build to Rent supply tracker. You might be surprised by the numbers!
The Build to Rent hub is the brainchild of Property Council’s BTR Taskforce, a dedicated collective of members who wanted to create an online public-facing space where anyone can come for information and resources on Build to Rent in Aotearoa.
A truly unique initiative thanks to the willingness of our Taskforce to share ideas, content and data, we look forward to seeing this platform grow and develop over the coming months and years.

Webinar | Lessons in BTR with Australian expert Christian Grahame
Build to Rent (BTR) in New Zealand is fledgling. Thanks to the Property Council’s advocacy efforts, we have an asset class in place and a commitment from the new government to prioritise further overseas investment in the first 100 days of its term – very soon, all the major levers will be in place for exponential growth. 🚀
Our neighbours across the Tasman, however, are well ahead of us and we’re delighted to be hearing from the head of Australia’s largest Build to Rent operator and industry pioneer, Christian Grahame of Home Apartments.
