Assistant Centre Manager (Shopping Centres) with AMP Capital. Part of the management team for Botany Town Centre and Manukau Supa Centa in Auckland, New Zealand.
The best part about my job is…
working in the exciting industry that is shopping centres! I really feel lucky and grateful. You grow up associating shopping centres with fun, good times, smiles, seeing friends, weekends… and now I live and breathe it every day.
Property is…
everywhere. Part of the entire fabric of human existence and history. You cannot go through life without interacting with it in some way, shape or form.
I choose to work in property because…
it is exciting, rewarding, and challenging. It is a niche profession; I always wanted to work in a unique industry that I could be proud of and feel like my expertise would be valued.
My three workday essentials are…
my morning coffee, my centre walks, and some form of banter with the team. I’m also particular about getting to the top of my inbox if I can before calling it a day.
My typical day at work is…
different to the last! Each day in shopping centre management keeps you on your toes, and that is one of the best aspects of my job.
My most valuable skill is…
my interpersonal skills – essential in this line of work. I’m fairly handy with numbers too.
My biggest career lesson is…
to lead, is to show respect.
My childhood dream was…
to work at DEKA because I could have access to unlimited toys! Clearly I was destined for a career in retail!
My biggest inspiration is…
myself. Just being honest! What inspires me most day to day, is my internal motivation to continue bettering myself and pushing for success in all my endeavours.
My downtime is spent…
watching sports, seeing close friends, bit of gaming, spending time with my gorgeous wife (we just celebrated our first anniversary actually).
The one piece of advice I’d give to someone considering property as a career is…
this might be cliché, but networking is key. Just as important as the degrees or qualifications you will pick up along the way. Networking opens all the doors in what is a small industry.
