Have your say on the Modern Slavery Bill

In this video, Property Council New Zealand Advocacy Manager Sandamali Ambepitiya discusses the proposed Modern Slavery Bill and what it could mean for the property sector, as well as how members can help shape our submission.

The Modern Slavery Bill would establish New Zealand’s first formal modern slavery reporting regime. It would require larger organisations to report annually on the risks of modern slavery within their operations and supply chains, as well as the steps they are taking to identify, address, mitigate and remediate those risks. The aim is to improve transparency and accountability and bring New Zealand into closer alignment with international reporting frameworks such as those in Australia and the United Kingdom.

Consultation on the Bill is now open, and Property Council New Zealand is currently drafting its submission on behalf of members.

To ensure the sector’s views are properly reflected, we have established an Advocacy Taskforce to provide feedback on our draft submission before it is finalised. Members who would like to be involved are encouraged to get in touch with Sandamali.
