Draft Residential Building Supplies market study report released

The Commerce Commission has released its draft findings of a study into New Zealand’s residential building supplies market. Their preliminary view is that competition for the supply of key building supplies is not working well and would be improved if it was easier for building products to be introduced.

In past submissions, we have advocated for a centralised information-sharing scheme alongside more compliance pathways for key building supplies. We are pleased to see that this has been adopted. We are however disappointed that once again, the key issue relating to risk and liability have been kicked down the road with the Government’s recent policy paper.

Property Council will be submitting on the draft report and if you are interested in providing feedback, please contact Sandamali Gunawardena, Advocacy Advisor.
