Auckland Property People Award Winners Continue to Shine!

This evening marked the third annual Auckland Property People Awards, with over 300 guests coming together to award nine of the local property industries best and brightest. 
Special thanks to our panel of judges and principal partner Greenstone Group, supporting partner Babbage and category sponsors Rider Levett Bucknall, BSA Law, Resene, Ignite Architects, Buchan, JLL, AMP Capital and Barker & Associates for supporting this spectacular local event.

Buchan Sheree Cooney Memorial Young Achiever Award

Chris Farhi, Colliers International

The judging panel were blown away by Chris’ nomination. His lifelong love of learning and focus on education led to him to study at one of the world’s top universities and build a career as a leading young property professional. Chris’ appointment as the leader of an innovative start-up business for Colliers in 2016 acknowledges his technical expertise, professionalism and reputation as a future leader. Chris was Colliers’ top revenue earner in January 2018, twice winning Colliers’ monthly award for professional services, making him one of the most sought-after property consultants in the market. 

The depth and breadth of Chris’ expertise will secure his place as a future industry leader.

Auckland Airport Property Team

The Auckland Airport Property team has shared a consistent  vision  to  develop  a  world-class  industrial  business  park,  setting  itself  apart  as  a  market  leader  who  focuses  not  only  on functionality,  but  also  on driving  quality  design  that  will  endure  over  time. 

They have been described as exceptionally professional and results-focused. The team culture is strong, professional yet relaxed, with a high-level of respect and appreciation for everyone’s individual expertise. Barker & Associates Best Team Award

Wynyard Development Team

Wynyard Development Team have created a world class innovation precinct by forming a partnership between two public authorities and a private property entity that allows the public body to maintain control over the design and performance of the building. The bond formed between the team was reinforced through team competitions, on site BBQ’s and the universal language of food. 

The judges were impressed by management’s huge effort to be visible, and credited the attitude and graft put in by the whole team for ensuring the building was finished on time and on budget.

JLL Property Professional of the Year Award

Lloyd Budd, Bayleys Real Estate

Lloyd has 17 years of global experience across development, agency and leadership. He is a member of the Bayleys Executive Board and brings a unique, big-picture approach to innovation. His work in the last year has been exemplary, demonstrating keen leadership and vision, creating significant and ongoing impact on the real estate and broader New Zealand communities. 

Lloyd leads several extraordinary initiatives that have brought a greater level of professionalism to the industry, including a cross-agency commercial property group who work with the New Zealand Green Building Council to inform their advocacy position when lobbying government on sustainability issues and a dedicated Maori Business Unit within Bayleys, supporting the interests of iwi business throughout New Zealand. He also helped establish Bayleys’ Women in Property and Under 35s initiatives after himself winning the Property Council Young Achiever of the Year Award in 2016. 

Lloyd’s contribution to the sector is undeniable. He has cemented a reputation for strategic and continuous innovation, fortified with principals of sustainability, efficiency and progress.

Resene Women in Property Award 

Kelly Bunyan, Spark

Kelly Bunyan has used her legal expertise, property knowledge and negotiating skills to achieve extraordinary commercial outcomes. Her eagerness and energy mean she excels in her role of Chapter Lead of Property, bringing a fresh approach to Spark’s property and infrastructure projects. 

Kelly has been front and centre of Spark’s two largest new builds, influencing the procurement strategy and leading commercial negotiations while managing stakeholders and advising senior management. Her unwavering enthusiasm and energy in facilitating new thinking around the property portfolio empowers others to lift their game. 

Kelly has been involved in training and mentoring junior staff, was an active member of the Property Council Women in Property Committee and is Spark’s first female property leader, inspiring women in the company and the wider industry by openly sharing her experience, knowledge, insights and encouraging others to seek opportunities to grow.

Rider Levett Bucknall Outstanding Leadership Award 

Colleen Seth, University of Auckland

In her roles as Planning and Development Manager and now Associate Director of Property Services at the University of Auckland, Colleen has demonstrated outstanding leadership skills by driving change. 

She has been responsible for master planning, town planning and asset and resource planning for five major campuses and several smaller sites. Colleen is a highly effective leader and manager with an open and honest approach to managing people and projects that has broken down the barriers between the academic functions of the University and the Property Services team. Colleen leads a strong staff development programme, encouraging her staff to engage in ongoing development and to progress through additional tertiary and professional education. 

Colleen is highly respected by her peers and the wider development and construction industry. Her commitment to positive change in the built environment is an example to all in the property industry. The judges commend Colleen on her phenomenal project work and believe she is a worthy recipient of this award.

BSA Law Long Service Award 

Waren Warfield, founding director of RCP

With almost four decades of project management experience under his belt, he continues to lead some of New Zealand’s most complex and iconic development projects. From the early development of SkyCity, Eden Park and the original America’s Cup Village, through to the Auckland and Christchurch Hospital Redevelopments – making him a true pillar of the property and construction industry. 

Committed to giving back, Waren not only passes on his industry knowledge and project experience by mentoring his staff, he is also invested in supporting charitable organisations including as a Trustee of the Maia Health Foundation. 

Sincere in nature, Waren is well respected by his RCP family, his clients and industry peers, and epitomises the values of trust and integrity - always going above and beyond to achieve project success.

AMP Capital Judges Choice Award 

Alastair Kent-Johnston, Blue Barn Consulting

Alastair has displayed exceptional leadership and service to the property sector in a standout career spanning over 45 years. He has been at the forefront of many signature land development projects and has certainly left his mark on the Auckland property industry. Like all great leaders, Alastair is very charismatic, forward thinking and solution focused. In addition to his professional qualifications, Alastair has received industry recognition as a Member of the NZ Institute of Land Surveyors, a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and a Member of the NZ Institute of Directors.

Greenstone Group Auckland Supreme Award for Excellence 

Chris Farhi, Colliers International

Chris Farhi has a lifelong love of learning. Starting out at Manurewa High School, he achieved Honours degrees in both Civil Engineering and Property at the University of Auckland before completing a Master of Philosophy (Real Estate Finance) at the University of Cambridge in the UK.  

Chris’ appointment as the leader of an innovative start-up business for Colliers in 2016 acknowledges his technical expertise, professionalism and reputation as a future leader. He was Colliers’ top revenue earner in January 2018, twice winning Colliers’ monthly award for professional services. He is also a Chartered Surveyor for the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and a part-time lecturer at the University of Auckland Business School. 

Chris intends to continue his academic pursuits alongside his main professional roles, commencing his part-time PhD through the University of Auckland Business School earlier this year.  At the age of 33, Chris Farhi has achieved more in his career to date than many property professionals could hope to achieve in a lifetime.
