Always a firm favourite, this year's Market Summit is more pertinent than ever, with the property industry and the wider economy left reeling from the ongoing impact of COVID-19.

To kick-off, Westpac Chief Economist Dominick Stephens will take us on an economic journey through the past 12 months of turmoil and beyond, then Colliers International's Director of Valuation and Advisory Services, Gary Sellars, will share the major sales and statistics of the Canterbury market for 2020.

This event will cover:

  • The economic outlook for New Zealand in a COVID-19 world.
  • An overview of the Christchurch investment property market including an update on the office leasing market and trends, the hospitality scene, the industrial market and other related drivers and trends.
  • The impact of COVID-19 on the local market.

In these changing times, a live event is a rare and precious thing. While we will do everything in our power to bring this event to you as a face-to-face experience, should the situation change and restrictions on event numbers fluctuate due to government restrictions, we may be forced to take this event online or change the format. Of course, you'll still be getting the same great content, just in a different format. Dominick Stephens

Chief Economist, Westpac

Dominick joined Westpac as a Senior Economist in 2006 and became Chief Economist in 2011. His most well-known research concerns the roles of taxation, interest rates and inflation on the New Zealand housing market. He has also published research on the exchange rate, New Zealand's labour market and macroeconomic modelling.

Dominick started his career at the Reserve Bank of New Zealand. He was closely involved in forecasting and interest rate decisions as second-in-charge of the RBNZ's forecasting team. He is from Christchurch and graduated from the University of Canterbury with a Bachelor of Science with 1st Class Honours in Economics.

Gary Sellars

Director of Valuation and Advisory Services, Colliers International

Gary is Director of Valuation and Advisory Services at Colliers International in Christchurch, having started his valuation career with the Valuation Department in 1973. Since then he has worked for the Hong Kong Government in the rating and valuation department and Fright Aubrey as a Director, which has since evolved into Colliers International.

Gary specialises in commercial and industrial valuation and consultancy within the CBD and suburban locations of Christchurch and other major metropolitan areas in the South Island. He has completed extensive research on the Christchurch office vacancy market, as well as the residential and business land markets in Canterbury for a number of years.

He is a Registered Valuer, a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Valuers and a Fellow of the New Zealand Property Institute.

Confirmation of registration will be sent to each attendee and an invoice/receipt will be sent to the purchaser upon check out. Please note that credit is offered to Property Council New Zealand members only, with non-members required to pay in full upon check out via credit card or POLi direct bank transfer.

Should you need to cancel your attendance, you may reassign your registration to another person by notifying the Event Manager in writing. If you are unable to arrange a replacement, a full refund will be made providing notification is received in writing at least one week prior to the event (please note that this may not be applicable for national events or Awards functions). After this date, no refunds are available. If, for reasons beyond the control of Property Council New Zealand, the event is cancelled, the registration fee will be refunded after deduction of expenses already incurred.

  • There is no onsite parking at the Christchurch Town Hall, however, there are several public car parks you can view a carpark map here. There is a drop off zone in front of the building on Kilmore Street. 
  • The event will start promptly at 4:30pm. We ask all attendees to please arrive early to allow time for you to register your attendance and find your seat.
  • The event managers will use the information provided in your registration for COVID-19 contact tracing if necessary.
  • You should not attend this event if you are unwell, have had contact with anyone suffering from COVID-19 or if you need to be in isolation for any reason. Please refer to the COVID-19 website for details about the current alert level.
  • The event organisers will take all steps recommended by the Ministry of Health but accept no responsibility should an outbreak of COVID-19 happen at/result from the event.
