Dunedin Seismic Risk Update
July 1 @ 3:30 pm - 6:00 pm
NZ$65.00
The Government’s Seismic Risk Management Review has led to the most significant proposed changes to New Zealand’s earthquake-prone buildings regime in decades. The resulting Buildings (Earthquake-prone Buildings) Amendment Bill will fundamentally reshape how seismic risk is assessed and managed, moving to a new risk-based framework and seismic zoning system.
For Dunedin, where the city is proposed to move from a low to a medium seismic zone and where much of the building stock predates modern seismic standards, the potential changes have real implications for asset values, strengthening obligations and insurance.
This session will provide a timely update on what the review signals for the future of seismic policy and how the industry should prepare. Discussion will focus on the practical implications of seismic reform across policy, design, engineering, and insurance – exploring impacts on existing assets, investment decisions, and long-term asset planning.
This event will bring together property owners, investors, developers, asset managers, engineers and local government representatives to better understand the implications of the review for the property sector, particularly in Dunedin.
We’re delighted to welcome keynote speaker Matthew McDermott, Manager, Building Performance and Resilience Policy at MBIE. He’ll join the panel discussion facilitated by Charlotte Foster of Naylor Love with Cameron Belliss, Group Pre-Construction Engineer at Naylor Love and AJ Ashton, Executive Broker – Commercial at Gallagher, offering diverse perspectives on the challenges and opportunities ahead.
Refreshments will be provided following the session, along with time for networking.
