The Seismic Risk Management Review represents one of the most significant potential shifts in how New Zealand manages earthquake-prone buildings, risk thresholds and strengthening expectations. This session will provide a timely update on what the review signals for the future of seismic policy and how the industry should prepare. Discussion will focus on the practical implications of seismic reform across policy, design, engineering, and insurance – exploring impacts on existing assets, investment decisions, and long-term asset planning.

 

This event will bring together property owners, investors, developers, asset managers, engineers and local government representatives to better understand the implications of the review for the property sector, particularly in Christchurch.

 

We’re delighted to welcome keynote speaker Matthew McDermott, Manager, Building Performance and Resilience Policy at MBIE. He’ll join the panel discussion with Jared Keen, Technical Director, Structural Engineering at Beca and Steve Walsham, Head of Commercial at Gallagher, offering diverse perspectives on the challenges and opportunities ahead.
