Gavin Shaw takes on Business Director role at Beca
Beca has announced the appointment of Gavin Shaw as its new Business Director for Construction Sector Advisory. In his new role, Gavin will be partnering with key clients in shaping construction sector outcomes and setting up significant capital programmes – delivering better outcomes not only for clients but more broadly for the construction sector and for New Zealand.
Gavin says, “I am passionate about the built environment and transforming things for the greater good, and through understanding and balancing the social, behavioural and commercial forces that shape our industry, we can consistently achieve more.”

RDT Pacific appoints Alex Cutler to the newly created role of Chief Sustainability Officer
RDT Pacific has announced the appointment of Chief Sustainability Officer Alex Cutler.
This new leadership role has been created to reinforce RDT Pacific’s existing strength in delivering industry leading sustainability advice and to connect it with the commitment to tackle their own operational impacts.
According to CEO Mike Rendall, an important formal step in the process of embedding sustainability into strategy, decision-making and delivery, the role of CSO will also lend additional heft to the challenges many of our clients are facing. He goes further to say that “with the unique combination of Alex’s sustainability expertise and consulting experience, she is well-placed to lead this work internally and help us sew together the threads of sustainability that already exist in our work with clients.”
Alex’s background as former CEO of the New Zealand Green Building Council, as well as her consulting experience at PricewaterhouseCoopers, SustainAbility Ltd and her own practice, Urban Constructs Ltd, means her initial focus will be on establishing the materiality of RDT’s key impacts and setting targets in line with strategy. Alex will also be refining and completing RDT’s suite of sustainability services to better anticipate the more strategic challenges that clients are already facing.
“With the Government commitment of carbon neutrality by 2025 and the clear pressure on corporate boards to report on TCFD* risks, it is critical that senior leadership incorporates the existing work of developing sustainable buildings, into a more strategic and cohesive approach across whole property portfolios,” says Alex. “While Aotearoa New Zealand property developers have been building Green Star rated assets for years, how it connects with corporate strategy, and in turn, value to shareholders, is often less clear. We will be spending more time with clients to help them clearly articulate and capture that value.”
