Leonie Freeman: Face-to-face in the regions

As post-COVID travel has picked back up, the advocacy team have commenced travelling to the regions to meet with key stakeholders and engage with our members at Property Council events.

In April, Katherine Wilson, Head of Advocacy attended Wellington’s Mayoral Breakfast and asked critical questions of Wellington Mayor’s around how the Council are planning to pay for and implement future urban development projects. Katherine and Wellington Regional Manager Sandra Brown also attended meetings with the Let’s Get Wellington Moving team, Chamber of Commerce, Greater Wellington and attended the Budget lock-up.

In June, Logan Rainey attended Tauranga’s Development Update event and provided an overview of our current advocacy workstreams to our Tauranga members in attendance. Logan, alongside a few selected Property Council members, met with the Tauranga City Council Commissioners who invited Property Council to sit on Tauranga’s Development and Business Forum. This group will help provide input into the future of Tauranga, and we are pleased the Commission reached out to offer us a seat at the table.

Coming up, the advocacy team have scheduled visits to the Beehive in Wellington, and Property Council events in Hamilton and Auckland, and Property Conference on 7-9 September in Christchurch. The aftermath of COVID has taught us not to underestimate face-to-face relationships as we look to continue to build on what has been established online. Visiting the regions is critical to ensuring that Property Council’s local advocacy work is both heard and seen.

We look forward to continuing travelling around the regions, attending upcoming events and connecting with you. As always, reach out if you have any questions.

Ngā mihi nui.
