The Government has approved Christchurch City Council’s request to withdraw the remaining parts of Plan Change 14, its major housing plan.
Originally designed to apply medium-density housing rules citywide, Christchurch Council met the criteria to scale back the plan after zoning enough land to meet 30 years of housing demand.
What this means for property professionals
The decision means some suburban areas will no longer be rezoned for medium-density development, with intensification now focused around key centres and the central city. Property professionals should review zoning maps to identify which areas remain eligible for development under the updated framework.
