Champions
for Change
Together,
shaping an industry
where everyone can thrive
Uniting the property industry behind diversity, equity and inclusion.
The Property Council Champions for Change is a group of property industry leaders each with a personal mission to foster a more diverse and inclusive property industry in New Zealand.
We want to attract and retain top talent, better represent the communities we serve, achieve high performance and play a crucial leadership role that creates positive change and leaves a lasting legacy for the property sector and beyond.
The objectives of the coalition are to:
- Increase female representation in leadership across the industry and close the gender pay gap
- To increase workforce participation by women
- To increase the representation of Māori in property and invest to grow greater cultural capability and intelligence across the industry
- To lead and measure inclusive culture across the property industry and develop inclusive leadership as a key industry capability.
By working together we can create lasting change and a dynamic and future-focused property industry.
“As Aotearoa New Zealand’s largest industry, the property sector has a responsibility to champion diversity and inclusion.”

Our Champions
The
Commitment
Each Champion will advocate for greater inclusion and diversity within their organisation, sector and the wider industry through:
- Committing to measure and share D&I data with the CFC cohort. This will enable benchmarking and the monitoring of progress
- Behaving in ways that are inclusive and courageous, upholding positive D&I values within your organisation
- Creating opportunities for people in your organisations to be involved in how they plan, design and take action – ensuring they collectively shape an industry where people have what they need to belong
- Implementing changes that positively impact on all people in the industry
- Encouraging creative and diverse thinking that helps the industry embrace the changing world
- Ensuring fair and inclusive treatment for and from everyone they work with
- Commitment to closing the gap on pay equity
- Having a zero tolerance for harassment and bullying in their organisations, responding swiftly and appropriately
- Uncovering and eliminating barriers to diversity and inclusion in our systems, practices and processes
- Ensuring people feel safe in all places they work.
How it works
Reporting on action and progress
The Accord defines a clear set of principles for organisations to commit to and build an action plan against. Organisations must submit to the Accord a succinct yearly report describing their actions and their annual progress on each of the seven principles.
Measurement and accountability
Members commit to completing the annual Property Council DEI survey. The survey acts as a core tool for measuring and reporting collective impact.
Annual Summit
Members commit to have their CEO or representative attend the annual Property Council DEI Accord Summit where they will present their progress to the Accord community.
Peer accountability
The Property Council and fellow Accord signatories have the right to remove signatory status from an organisation that fails to live up to the committed actions.
