Hosted by Property Council's South Island Education Trust, be inspired, motivated and learn from leaders in the industry in the annual informal, yet informative, chat sessions. The first event of the year for young professionals will be set in the upstairs ambience of Dux Central. Come and share a bite and a beverage with your industry peers and hear from a well respected leader in the property industry. 

The 2018 Southern Excellence Awards Long Service Award winner, Alastair Porter, will impart knowledge surrounding a long and successful career including new business ventures, governance and leadership roles. Ask questions and learn a trick or two you can take on your own career journey.

Alastair Porter

Alastair started his first business at just 18, while still at Auckland University, importing textiles from Thailand. For his second venture at 19, Alastair with two partners renovated terrace houses in Sydney. His next career move at 20 was as an accountant for a public listed property and finance company. With various experience under his belt, Alastair at 22 was a co-founder of Bridge City Property Group and five years later started Porter Group’s Property Development and Farming Businesses. This group expanded to include textiles, fruit and vegetable exporting and direct marketing collectibles subsidiaries.

As a pioneer in the deer industry, Alastair became a board member on the Deer Farmers Board and before becoming a member and deputy chairman of the Game Industry Board. At a community level Alastair chaired the Queenstown Chamber of Commerce for five years and is currently Chairman of the Queenstown Shaping Our Future board. Alastair is best known for his involvement in Queenstown masterplanned developments at Remarkables Park, Shotover Park and deer farming enterprises.
