Larnach Castle was built in 1871 by prominent entrepreneur and politician, William Larnach, and takes pride of place on Dunedin’s Peninsular.  Known as New Zealand’s only castle, this stunning property delivers a fascinating story.

Fast forward 96 years, this Castle on the Hill had fallen into major disrepair.  In steps the Barker family who had a vision and passion to not only restore this dishevelled beauty, but to share it with the world.  Larnach Castle is now the largest provider of accommodation on the Peninsula and in 2018 it was designated a New Zealand Landmark by Heritage New Zealand.

We invite you to board our bus from Dunedin Railway Station and enjoy the trip along the Peninsular to hear from Norcombe Barker, Larnach Castle’s current custodian, who will lead us through the extensive conservation work that the family has undertaken over the past 50 years, with special note of the most recent major restoration work that will secure the longevity of what is our own Castle on the Hill.

The event will be followed by cocktails and networking.
