Property Council in collaboration with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) is pleased to offer a series of training courses designed with the New Zealand commercial property sector in mind.

Despite the disruption and challenges faced, the demand for retail space within the New Zealand market remains high. At the end of this half-day session, users of retail valuations – such as asset managers, lease accountants, analysts, owners and developers – will better understand how valuations are undertaken. Importantly, they will also understand what factors and actions influence the valuation.

This is essential learning for all non-valuers in the property industry.

This course also assists APC candidates in reaching level one in valuation.

Course contents:

  • The main drivers affecting retail value
  • The main retail valuation methods
  • Tenancy mix and relevance to demographic catchment
  • The significance of industry benchmarks, including MAT and occupancy costs
  • How to value using the Capitalisation Method
  • How to analyse income, outgoings, capital expenditure, incentives, over/under market rents, vacancy, WALE, effective rents, yields
  • How actions affect value
  • Ways to maximise a retail property’s income and value.

Stephen's experience spans over 20 years with the last 14 years focused on retail valuations.

As National Director, Stephen is responsible for driving business development to ensure we offer an integrated and high quality service to our clients.

Stephen combines his role with the leadership of our experienced National Retail team, ensuring a coordinated service is provided to clients. Being based in Melbourne, Stephen also shares responsibility for retail valuations in Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia.

Stephen will be assisted in this session by Tim Arnott, Senior Director, Valuation and Advisory Services, Auckland, CBRE
