Wakefield Hospital is a state-of-the-art facility providing access for patients across the Wellington region and lower North Island from consultation services with leading specialists across many disciplines. 

The ~$166m redevelopment spans five levels and includes seven operating theatres, two cardiac cath labs, 47 beds, a 3,000m2 medical consulting building and shell space for a further 32 beds, as well as ~260 car parks.

Stage 1 includes the new medical specialist consulting, full radiology unit, new administration and front-of-house areas was completed in July 2021 and has been operational for the duration of the Stage 2 works. This stage won Excellence in the Civic, Health and Arts category at the 2022 Property Industry Awards.  

Stage 2 will deliver the balance of the works with phased handovers forecast for Q4 2024 (stage 2A) and Q2 2025 (stage 2B including the demolition of the final part of the original hospital).

Key elements/challenges of this development include:

1. Wakefield is one of New Zealand’s oldest and largest multidisciplinary private hospitals having opened in 1929.
