Two renowned industry experts, Sharon Zollner, Chief Economist, ANZ and Christina Leung, Principal Economist, New Zealand Institute of Economic Research, share their insights into the state of New Zealand’s economy and property market.

This presentation will cover:

  • The global and local economic outlook for the next six months, with the latest predictions and market analysis

  • An exploration of the consequent economic impacts for our industry
  • An Auckland-centric lens, tracking where activity is increasing, decreasing or stabilising across the property market

Sharon Zollner
Chief Economist, ANZ
Sharon grew up on a farm near Methven, and holds a Master of Commerce from the University of Canterbury. She started her career at the Reserve Bank of New Zealand in 1998, and has also worked at the central bank of Norway. She moved to the New Zealand banking sector in 2006. She joined the ANZ economics team in 2010 and became Chief Economist in late 2017. Sharon manages a team of six sector experts around New Zealand.
Christina Leung
Principal Economist, New Zealand Institute of Research
Christina works with many clients looking at topical issues, including the wider economic impact of particular industries and investments, and key developments in the construction sector. She has also been an expert witness in a wide range of litigation cases involving remedial construction work. She is also regularly asked to provide commentary to a broader audience on general economic developments.
She heads up Membership Services, where she looks after NZIER’s economic forecasts and analysis of our Quarterly Survey of Business Opinion.
Before joining NZIER in 2015, she had over ten years of experience in the public and private sectors, having worked at the Reserve Bank of New Zealand and ASB Bank. At ASB Bank, she led the quarterly forecasting process, produced a regular commentary on key economic and industry developments, and provided guidance to internal and external clients on the economic outlook and financial market developments.
She is a Board Director and Vice Chair of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Society NZ.
