10th Anniversary Wellington Golf Day Summary

Our 10th Anniversary Golf Day was held on the 3rd of March 2010 at the Hutt Golf Course.

Teams were juggled and altered as commitments altered the configuration but soon the 136 competitors uplifted their registration packs before hitting the greens. These contained the necessary sun protection (caps) from Davis Langdon and hydration in the form of water from Rider Levettt Bucknall. Resene's golf packs would undoubtedly come in handy, particularly with the number of balls lost on course. Ecoglo added key rings to the packs ensuring that all could find their keys at the end of an exhausting day.

Well prepared, BBQ consumed and freshly watered, players took up their positions at allocated holes and were set off at the shotgun start to participate in this Ambrose rules event.

(Thanks to Charles from Colliers for pointing out I had the old rules on the card! 2011 can only get better!)

The course was well manicured and prepared by our hosts at the Hutt Golf Club, and players indulged with oncourse activities:

The 'Kensington Swan' marquee indulged competitors with margueritas and nibbles leaving challengers to 'miss the lake' heading for hole 11 - no mean feat after one of those - and to compete 'nearest the pin on 10' for the elite Chilli Bin - won by Mark Pitcher of The Moving Company.

Simpson Grierson eluded many a player with an on course hockey activity - accuracy not distance - cunningly plied with a shot of Sambuca making the challenge all the more difficult! Nearest the pin competition on 18 was taken out by Ramon Wilson of Rider Levett Bucknall - a team to be reckoned with!

Beca provided mouth-watering ice creams on 14, CPG NZ Ltd technologically judging the 'Precision shot' on hole 7, Davis Langdon's 'oldie but a goody' putting competition on 9 and the charity hole on 5 sponsored by The Wellington Company. You will be pleased to note the $550 raised at 'Nearest the pin on 5' and matched by The Wellington Company has been donated to Te Omanga Hospice. Rider Levett Bucknall continued with hydration on course with the 'Watering Hole' on 16 and Colliers International challenging players for the 'Best swing of the day' on 1. Flags flying for our remaining sponsors included Ecoglo, AMP Capital Investors, DLA Phillips Fox and Resene Paint.

Winners of our 'Best Sponsor's Hole' competition went to Archaus Architects with a Quesadilla BBQ and Beer tent which brought happy smiles throughout the day. This is the second year running they have taken out this prize and are rewarded with free hole allocation for 2011.

Of course the bar has now been set and it is time for all to don their thinking caps to find the winning activity for 2011!

A huge thank you to all the staff of these organisations who prepare and man the activities and who truly make the day enjoyable for all players.

The PCNZ golf cart was graciously manned (or ladied) by Hillaire from Munro Benge Chartered Accountants and our resident photographer Craig Mills of Davis Langdon. See the shots here
