  5. Getting to grips with asbestos regulations

Getting to grips with asbestos regulations

    Date: 29/03/2017 08:30 AM
    Branch: Wellington

The Health and Safety at Work (Asbestos) Regulations 2016 state that every building built prior to 2000 must be assumed to contain asbestos, and that no-one can go near it unless they comply with the regulations.  PCBUs with control or influence over a workplace have until April 2018 to develop a plan to manage the risk of exposure.

The regulations are consistent with the Act’s intention that there is a collective responsibility to manage risks to health and safety.

Clare Sinnott, Special Counsel at Minter Ellison Rudd Watts will outline the legal obligations and implications of the legislation.

Shelley Major, Managing Director Major Consulting Group, will explain what these regulations mean for property owners and tenants, and those who contract building services.

Renee Hattingh, from Marsh Insurance Brokers, will also take the opportunity to explain what your insurance can and can’t generally cover.

    Future cities post 2020
What will our cities look like in the future? We expect the key influencers to include climate change, technology advancements, energy efficiencies, development of urban communities and increasing use of rating tools.

One thing is certain; NZ has entered a period of unprecedented urban construction where smart planning can create healthy, productive buildings as a powerful platform for the future. To assist in understanding and planning for some of these changes, our 2017 Green Property Summit focuses on many aspects of urban renewal and development and to some extent, urban communities.

NZGBC & PCNZ bring together leaders in the latest initiatives in delivering green buildings and precincts, the business case and environment including incentives and drivers, policies and opportunities for green buildings.

Future Cities post 2020 will bring key players in the world’s green building sector to Auckland – offering attendees a unique opportunity to gain knowledge from people operating at the cutting edge. The one day event includes world-leading, inspirational content with market intelligence and practical guidance, showcasing local content, concepts that work and a change to get up close and personal with industry peers and leaders.
